Journal Title: International Journal Of Research In Medicine - Year 2016, Vol 5, Issue 3

Abstract

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Operative management of fracture shaft of humerus can be with plate osteosynthesis or with intromedullary nailing. In this study we have tried to analyze the outcome in terms of time for consolidation, union later, function results and complications of humeral shaft fractures managed with closed antegrade interlocking nailing. Study was conducted Baroda Medical College, Shri Sayajairao General hospital by various doctors over period of time two year from may 2013 to may 2015. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A series of 30 patients with acute fractures of shaft humerus were treated antegrade interlocking nailing during may 2013 to may 2015. There were 25 males & 5 females with an average age of 32 yr (22-64 years). All the patients we followed up for an average penod of 14 months and results were analyzed. RESULTS: 29 (97%) fractured healed within 12 week write 1 patient hard fracture unity at 25 week in our study. There was no nonunion in our study 2 (6%) had rild aestruction or shoulder move held. Functional results wee excellest in 27 (90%) 3 (10%) had good results. CONCLUSION: Closed antegrade interlocking nailing offers a safe and rellone method of fixing fractures of humeral shaft with early fracture consolidation higher union rates. It provides early rehabilitation and reduces hospital stay.
