STUDY ON THE USE OF CONTINUOUS MEASUREMENT OF CONSISTENCY TO IDENTIFY THE STRESS RELAXATION EFFECT IN THE MICROSTRUCTURE OF GREASES

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2011, Vol 237, Issue 3

Abstract

The article discusses the construction of greases and shows the specific influence of intermolecular interaction on the stability of the microstructure of the grease composition. The paper deals with experimental studies to modify the current standard procedures for measuring the consistency of greases. The modification consists in introducing the continuous recording of the penetration value of the product by using a laser triangulation technique. Results of the preliminary tests indicate that this modification enables the observation of the microstructure stability of the grease during the strain associated with dipping the cone. The article contains an analysis of observed curve fluctuations that may be the trapping of the stress relaxation effect in the structure of greases. An attempt to determine the average time and values of the relaxation effects for greases is made. Results indicate that the use of continuous recording of the position of measurement cone allows researchers to expand the information obtained on penetration measurement.
