STYLISTIC CONTEXT AS A LINGUISTIC MODEL FOR ANALYSIS OF ARTISTIC TEXT

Abstract

The article is devoted to the role of the stylistic context in the process of analysis of a literary text. Stylistic relevance of the context consists in the relations that arise from the opposition “neutral-stylistically marked”. Key indicators of the stylistic context (repetitions, contrasts, etc.) give rise to the phenomenon of irradiation: contextual convergence of words in terms of content or nature of the connotation under the influence of their proximity in the context. Stylistic information consists in the semantic duality caused by the contextual semantic opposition of the dictionary and occasional meanings of a lingual unit; the essence of the stylistic effect is its dual perception. Opposition between the neutral and stylistic contexts on the basis of irregular/regular alternation of elements, chaotic/ non-chaotic distribution, syntactic neutrality syntactic expressiveness, or the presence/absence of unpredictable elements does not exhaust all the characteristics of the stylistic context. A context with an irregular structure usually does not exceed one or two paragraphs and is surrounded by a context with regularly alternating elements, due to which the so-called neutral context also becomes stylistically marked. Determination of deviation from the norm of the stylistic context is not yet the answer to the question of the stylistic significance of a literary text as any artistic text is already stylistically meaningful due to additional meanings its elements acquire in the work of fiction. The growth of meaning in a literary text includes not only the duality of the content, but also the author's assessment and reflection of the world.
