STYLISTIC PECULARITIES OF GERMAN PATENTS DESCRIPTIONS LANGUAGE

Abstract
The article contains the analysis of German patents descriptions being a specic kind of patent literature texts. A special attention has been paid to stylistic peculiarities of their language. Since patent description is both scientic technical and legal document, its language peculiarity is the result of organic combination of scientic technical and ofcial business styles. In a patent stating of information is especially strict and concise. It combines clichs and archaisms with technical terminology and lexical units. It is also characterized by complex syntactical constructions used to ensure the implementation of the patent text communicative purpose. Peculiarity of the patents language is revealed in a great number of clichs, which feature the content logically and reflect the information accurately. The article dwells an German patent description’s lexical, grammatical and stylistic peculiarities distinguishing it from other kinds of scientic technical literature texts. According to the investigation carried out the original German patent documentation language is specic and unfolded. It has such stylistic features as consistency, compression, generalization, formality and visualization. It should be noted that the above mentioned features are revealed in different structural parts of the texts heterogeneously. The so called ‘shieldnessing’ is a peculiar stylistic feature which is characteristic only of patent description. It deals with nonspecic lexical units and special language economy means aimed at preventing the leakage of important information concerning the subject of the invention being patented. Patent descriptions’ stylistic peculiarities are illustrated in the article by numerous examples taken from German authentic sources.
