SUBJECTIVE ASSESSMENT OF NORDIC WALKING TRAINING AS PART OF A COMPLEX REHABILITATION

Abstract

Walking with the use of poles, is becoming a popular form of physical activity among people of different age and fitness. This form of exercise combines features of an ideal physical activity for everyone. The main aims of the paper is to evaluate the new form of training - Nordic Walking - among patients who used it as an element of complex rehabilitation and to evaluate attractiveness of this type of activity in every age group. The survey was conducted among patients from three centres in Poland: Sosnowiec, Ustroń, Mielno Unieście. The research concerned patients of different age with various medical conditions, who took part in a Nordic Walking training for at least three weeks. People who had trained Nordic Walking admitted that it is a safe and effective form of exercise that positively influences their general feeling. The patients were eager to continue the training. Nordic Walking can be used by elderly people who appreciated two additional points of reinforcement and taking load off ther jornts. Also young people can take advantage of this form of training to improve their fitness. Nordic Walking is a new and attractive form of physical activity which increases motivation for an active lifestyle regardless of a type of affection. The results of the study show that Nordic Walking can be introduced into rehabilitation programs as a complementary activity. Nordic Walking proves to be effective in improving effort tolerance and improving physical condition.
