Substrate integrated waveguide rectenna array using antipodal linearly tapered slot antenna

Abstract
A Ka-band rectenna array employing the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technique with antipodal linearly tapered slot antenna (ALTSA) is proposed and presented in this paper. Rectifiers based on the SIW are simulated and designed by using a combined method of full-wave electromagnetic field simulation and harmonic balance (HB) nonlinear circuit analysis. Single SIW-ALTSA rectenna and 1×4 rectenna array are designed and fabricated with a low-cost standard PCB process. The measured gain of each SIW-ALTSA block is about 12 dBi in 30GHz band, and also the obtained RF-to-DC conversion efficiency of the corresponding rectifier is 27.4%. The measured output DC power of the 1×4 rectenna array is approximately the sum of the four rectennas.
