Survey of Patient safety climate from nursing views

Abstract

Today patient safety has considerable importance in clinical care. Safety Climate refers to the perception of safety, which motivates people to perform tasks in a safe and safe. Health care organizations in the country, always trying to improve patient safety and quality of health care and for this purpose it is necessary that systems and business processes required to consider the safety climate. This study was designed to evaluate the safety climate in the hospitals of Islamic Azad University.In this Descriptive - analytic study, 200 persons from three of the hospitals affiliated with Islamic Azad University in Tehran (Bu Ali, Amiralmomenin and Javaheri hospitals ) were selected by simple random sampling. Demographic characteristics questionnaire and patient safety climate questionnaire (Kudo), were the data collection tools. Validated questionnaire, by content validity, and its reliability using Cronbach's alpha, .832, has determined. For data analysis, SPSS software version 19 and descriptive statistics such as frequencies and percentages, and also to compare the means, the Mann- Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used.The mean age of participants in this study, was 36.7 (6.79) years. Average Work Experience was 9.46 (5.8) years. Using the Mann-Whitney test showed a significant difference between men and women on the average dimensions of patient safety climate not found (.05 <P). Well as between the three hospitals, a significant difference in the mean dimensions of patient safety climate, except in Nursing conditions (P= .013) was observed. Kruskal-Wallis test was showed no significant difference in the mean dimensions of patient safety climate, except in dimension Fatigue reduction (P= .035), among the different sectors.Patient safety climate in hospitals studied are undesirable. Managers need to improve conditions of nurse in order to improve patient safety.
