Survey of Techniques of High Level Semantic Based Image Retrieval
Journal Title: International Journal of Research in Computer and Communication Technology - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 1
Abstract
This paper provides a comprehensive survey of the recent technical achievements in the research area of content based image retrieval. Images are being used since many years in all spheres including Antisocial Elements, Forces, Protected property, Construction Engineering, Ornamentations and rag trade, Press and advertising, Treatment of injuries and diseases, Spatial data management and analysis and Cultural heritage research for efficient services. But in the past few years, number of images has increased in huge amount due to the growth of internet. So, in large and varied collection, users of different domains face a problem of retrieving images relevant to the user query. To solve this problem, different techniques are adopted. This survey includes many publications to describe the research aspects in this area such as feature extraction, feature matching, semantic gap reduction and measurements for performance evaluation. Furthermore, based on the demand of different applications and current technology, a few promising research directions are suggested.
