Abstract

Every country identifies the possibility for its people to live in a clean and organized environment among its basic priorities by implementing sustainable development policies, preserving environmental quality, biological diversity as well as providing effective utilization of natural resources at the same time. Global economic growth generates increasingly serious risks or side effects to deal with. One of the topical issues of risk society is awareness of ecological risks and joint political and social activities for the reduction of these risks. This article describes the dynamics of several ecological risks in Latvia on the basis of statistical data regarding deforestation, waste utilization and air pollution.
