Synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of 5-substituted-2,4-thiazolidinedione

Journal Title: Indian Journal of Research in Pharmacy and Biotechnology - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 5

Abstract

The aim of present study is to synthesize a set of 5-substituted-2,4-thiazolidinediones as antimicrobial. These compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial activity. The structures of the new derivatives were established on the basis of IR and NMR spectral studies. The increasing identification of antibiotic resistant pathogens that cause serious infections cannot be ignored. Although the future cannot be predicted with certainty, it is surely possible that an extensive epidemic resistant bacterial infection could potentially harm millions of people. As various infections are the challenge for medical science, like HIV, Hepatitis C, and various bacterial infections (gram negative and gram positive), the 2, 4-thiazolidinediones can be the key to problem. As 2,4-thiazolidinedione is containing Nitrogen in the Heterocyclic ring it must possess antimicrobial activity because we know that various antimicrobials and antibiotics like β lactam ring, alkaloids and quinoline rings are having Nitrogen in the heterocyclic ring.
