Synthesis of Planar Mechanisms; Part IV: Four-bar Mechanism for Four Coupler Positions Generation

Abstract

The objective of the paper is to propose an approach relying on forming a mathematical model for a planar fourbar mechanism position incorporating four coupler positions. The model consists of 10 nonlinear equations considering the transmission angle of the mechanism in the four coupler positions. The equations are solved using the command 'fsolve' of MATLAB. A case study is presented as a justification for the proposed approach. Exact coupler positions are attained with transmission angles not more than 18.5 % of the optimum value of 90 degrees.
