TEACHING FOREIGN STUDENTS TO READ UKRAINIAN-LANGUAGE TEXTS (BEGINNER LEVEL)

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of developing foreign students’ reading skills at the Ukrainian language lessons at the beginner level of study. Examples of pretextual, by-text and post-text tasks are presented, the work of which helps foreign students to deeper comprehend the content of the given material, to master certain grammatical constructions and new vocabulary. Methodical research of the textbook work at elementary level of language proficiency (A1–A2) is developed. The main difficulties encountered by foreign students when reading Ukrainian-language texts are identified. Basic tips which are necessary to be followed for successful reading skills are marked out.
