Journal Title: Науковий вісник Херсонського державного університету. Серія: “Лінгвістика” - Year 2018, Vol 34, Issue 2
Abstract
The article focuses on the research of the cognitive properties of textual-graphical narrative techniques. Case study of the research are short epistolary stories “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” by Jeff Kinny. The types of the textual-graphical techniques and their role in the depiction of fictional mind of the characters have been revealed. Cognitive naratology is a new direction of narrative research that arose at the intersection of cognitive linguistics and classical naratology of the 20th century. The achievements of the structuralist and post-structuralist scientific school of narrative studies served as the basis and impetus for the rapid development of the study of narrative texts in the cognitive dimension. Cognitive Narathology provided absolutely unique and up-to-date ways of solving the issue of access to the artistic consciousness of characters, the discovery of cognitive mechanisms for the creation of narrative reality by the addressee and the identification of the necessary competencies of the addressee for the understanding of the artistic text. The purpose of the article is to find out ways to represent the artistic consciousness of the character with the help of text and graphic narrative techniques. In accordance with the goal set the following tasks: to identify types of text and graphic narrative techniques, implemented in short stories for children («Diary of a Wimpy Kid»); to clarify the role of text and graphic narrative techniques in representing the artistic consciousness of the character.
