CROSSDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO THE DEFINITION OF DETECTIVE FILM GENRE

Abstract

The article aims at defining the detective film genre on the basis of cross disciplinary approach for carrying out a translational analysis of the film text of the mentioned genre. In order to outline the general characteristics of the universal and specific criteria for the appearance of a detective series in Western European (British), Atlantic (American) and Eastern European (Ukrainian and Russian) cultural traditions, the criteria of a detective story as a literary genre are established, which served as the basis for the appearance of a detective film genre. In this regard, in the body of the article: clarifies the concept of genre and detective film genre in particular from the standpoint of literary studies, in order to determine the integral and differential features of this genre in different cultural traditions; outlines the universal and specific characteristics of the film genre in general, and the detective film genre in particular in different cultural traditions. The results of the analysis allowed us to establish the following. First, the integral feature of the detective film genre for Western and Eastern Slavic cultural traditions is determined by the stability of compositional schemes, the persistence of stereotypes, and the repeatability of the basic structures. Differential criteria are traced at the level of extralinguistic parameters, namely, historical, political, economic, socio-cultural and ideological factors of countries. Secondly, the analytical detective narrative is peculiar to the British detective genre / film genre, dynamic pragmatism for the American, psychological humanism for the literary genre for Ukrainian and Russian detectives of the Soviet Union period, and social realism for the film genre. The classification of subgenres of detective series, in general, and legal series, in particular within cross-cultural and translational aspects is the perspective of the research.
