THE ANATOMICAL STRUCTURE OF THE OVERGROUND VEGETATIVE ORGANS OF SAXIFRAGA ADSCENDENS L.
Journal Title: Analele Stiintifice ale Universitatii Alexandru Ioan Cuza din Iasi, Serie noua, Sectiunea II a. Biologie vegetala - Year 2009, Vol 55, Issue 1
Abstract
This paper presents the anatomical structure of the flowering stem, the rosette and cauline leaves of the biennial plant Saxifraga adscendens L. This plant was collected from the Bucegi Natural Park. The cross-sections and the tangential ones made through the overground vegetative organs were coloured then analysed and photographed with the Docuval microscope. The flowering stem presents a sclerenchymatous multilayered pericycle with a mechanical role for the plant, as an adaptation to the alpine area. The vascular bundles of the flowering stem are collateral. The flowering stem and both types of leaves are covered with many uniseriate glandular hairs. The leaves have a dorsiventral structure. The rosette leaves are hypostomatic while the cauline leaves are amphistomatic. The stomata are anomocytic.
