The Behaviour of Non-Structural Elements Under Earthquake Effect in Industrial Buildings
Journal Title: Gazi Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Dergisi Part C: Tasarım ve Teknoloji - Year 2018, Vol 6, Issue 2
Abstract
In our country, the earthquake risk of is considerably high in intensively populated and industrialized regions with ongoing high industrial development levels. During earthquakes, non-structural elements (NSE) can cause various risks in industrial facilities such as cessation of production, loss of work force, loss of stock, loss of function of machinery and equipments, fire and explosion due to leaking of dangerous materials, occurrence of injuries and even deaths. Precautions that can be taken before an earthquake can greatly reduce those risks. Numerous studies analyzing the probable structural damages have been carried out with the experiences obtained from the previous earthquakes. However, the number of researches on non-structural elements are quite scarce. In this study, non-structural elements are evaluated, and the risks under an earthquake effect as well as the precautions to be taken are mentioned.
