Journal Title: Наукові праці. Серія "Філологія. Літературознавство" - Year 2017, Vol 301, Issue 289
Abstract
The aim of this article is to find out the artistic ways and constants which represent the gender artistic models of reality in modern Ukrainian novels. The subject of investigation is artistic images and plot-making strategies forming «masculine» and «feminine» pictures of the world. The significant body of modern native novels (works by Sofiya Andrukhovych, Galyna Vdovychenko, Lyubko Deresh, Larysa Denysenko, Oksana Zabuzhko, Oles Ilchenko, Volodymyr Lys, Vasyl Shklyar and others) became the object of study in the article. During the study such problems were solved: definition of the ways of traditional images’ transformation; analysis of the main tendencies of gender’s artistic representation; detection of cultural premises of such representation and it’s correlation with modern social processes. The aim and the specificity of the subject determine the use of several basic methods: descriptive, comparative, comparative-historical and elements of mythological analysis. The scientific novelty of the research is that it represents the comprehensive study of «masculine» and «feminine» artistic models of modern Ukrainian novels with considering of historical and cultural context with a psychological base of main artistic tendencies. The theoretical value of the research is defined by the need to form the coherent picture of native novels’ development including the study of imaginative and substantial levels of artistic text and structural changes of novel’s form. The results of the research could be used in academic courses devoted to the modern Ukrainian literature and for the further study of novel’s theory and history. Modern Ukrainian novels tends to the artistic rethinking of traditional images like woman-mother or warrior-freedom fighter. The modeling of «masculine» and «feminine» worlds as the separate spaces could be explained as the reaction to some erosion of gender borders in modern reality and an attempt to determine the criterions of gender identity as the base factor of human attitude. The tendency to model man’s and woman’s images like Another is accompanied by artistic declaration of irrationality and incognisability of the representative of opposite sex. The crisis events in man’s and woman’s relations are incarnated in disharmonious pictures of the world represented by a number of modern novels (The city with chimeras by Oles Ilchenko, Felix Austria by Sofiya Andrukhovych, Countess by Volodymyr Lys). At the same time the need for Another as the condition of personal self-discovery and realization is declared in modern Ukrainian novels (Oksana Zabuzhko, Larysa Denysenko)
