THE CAUSE OF AN ACCELERATED DEGRADATION OF A BALL SCREW
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2012, Vol 244, Issue 4
Abstract
The paper presents a case study of a failure of a ball screw, operating in a small working machine. The result of the decrease of its operational properties was a major break-down of the entire structure. In order to determine the causes of the failure, detailed material tests were carried out. The attempt to reconstruct the character of the course of the work of this component was done as well. The analyses of material structure and hardness distribution in the cross-section of the rolling elements enabled an identification of the occurred failure. The cause was an overheating of the transmission. It was the result of an underestimation of the intensity of thermal effects in the mechanism.

FRICTION RESISTANCE IN SLIDE/ROLL MOTION FOR CHOSEN POLYMERS AGAINST STEEL
The paper describes the study of polymer-steel sliding pairs during slip-roll motion. The analysis focused on the frictional forces at various rolling to slip ratios. The kinematic parameters of the friction node were th...
THE ANALYSIS OF HYDRODYNAMIC PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION AND LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY IN THE GAP OF SLIDE JOURNAL BEARINGS WITH MICRO-GROOVES
The purpose of this paper is to analyse the distribution of hydrodynamic pressure, load carrying capacities, and friction force in the gap of the slide bearing on account of the type, number, and size of micro-grooves on...
THE INFLUENCE OF THE TYPE OF FILLER IN GREASE ON THE LUBRICATION EFFICIENCY SLIDING STEEL NODES
In the paper, investigations of the influence of the type of filler in grease on lubrication efficiency in steel sliding nodes working in mixed lubrication conditions are presented. The analysed fillers (presenting each...
EFFECT OF LONGITUDINAL VIBRATION PARAMETERS AND STIFFNESS OF CONTACT ON DRIVING FORCE REDUCTION IN SLIDING MOTION
The simulation tests results of the influence of amplitude of longitudinal tangential vibrations velocity as well as the influence of contact shear stiffness on driving force which is necessary for initiation and mainten...
THE INFLUENCE OF HOUSING ARRANGEMENT AND INTERFERENCE ON PRELOAD AND THEORETICAL LIFETIME OF A SYSTEM OF TAPER ROLLER BEARINGS OF A HIGH SPEED SHAFT OF A WIND TURBINE GEARBOX
A system of two taper roller bearings can carry loads with a high ratio of axial load to radial load. Such a system was proposed for a wind turbine gearbox following the poor durability of original bearing design with th...
