Abstract
Transportation has a dominant position in terms of social, economic and culture as a whole, and therefore deserves special attention. Without public transport, there would be no modern-day functioning cities. Unfortunately, most of the urban public transport is not desired by the people as an alternative to road transport. The result is that the authorities are faced with a great challenge to find the optimal solution in regards to urban transport. The challenge is to meet the increasing demands of society in terms of economy, convenience, speed and the availability of connections. None of which is an easy task. One idea is the concept of free public transport, which was expected to support sustainable development in cities. This would be accomplished by reducing road transport, as well as, improving the position of municipal authorities in the local arena. Such activities, as part of CSR, can be seen both a management strategy, as well as, a social phenomenon. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is defined primarily as a concept whereby organizations at the stage to pursue their strategy, in addition to economic interests, also take care of the interests of society, the relationship with the environment and environmental protection. Taking into account all the elements at the same time, allows for the sustainable activities of the organization, leading to increased competitiveness, a positive image, thereby increasing the confidence of consumers. This article aims to show the nature and impact of the potential effects of implementing the concept of free public transport in cities on sustainable development. The analysis will be carried out on the basis of their own observations and reviews of case studies. In addition, the author provides a description of the solution, as part of CSR strategies used by municipal authorities.
