The Control System of the Active Magnetic Bearing in the Aircraft Nacelle Actuation

Abstract

The flight control system of the modern aircrafts, i.e. Boeing 787 and Airbus A380, are designed in the “more electric aircraft” technology (MEA). This technology make an assumption of the use more electrical elements in onboard systems to reduce weight of the pneumatic and hydraulic piping, easier maintainability and finally is enhanced safety of the flight. The adoption of MEA is brought the active magnetic bearing (AMB) to eliminate the friction force in practical application. The technology explores novel approaches to design the development of electrically powered actuators used to operate flight control surfaces. In the paper there are presented the simulation and experimental results of the active magnetic bearing to use this technology in actuation systems. There are examining the homopolar magnetic bearing, which are designed in the Faculty of Avionics and Aviation Armament. During the experimental testing of the system there are measured the step responses and Bode characteristics of the control system with PD and PID controller. The parameters of the control system are assigned during the simulation in the Matlab – Simulink software. There are shown the construction of the active magnetic bearing and the structure of the lab stand.
