The degree of professional promotion of primary school teachers and the level of their emotional intelligence and social competences

Abstract
The article presents the results of research carried out with the participation of 142 primary school teachers. The starting point of the presented analyzes were the concepts referring to the teachers professional development, based on which it was assumed that the level of their emotional intelligence and social competences should change with the length of their work and the achievement of subsequent levels of professional promotion. However, the applied research procedures did not confirm the initial assumptions and revealed that there were no expected, statistically significant differences in the analyzed variables among the groups of teachers distinguished due to the degree of their professional promotion. The observations made in the course of the deliberations concerning the mentioned issues and the conclusions drawn on their basis, may serve as a starting point for conducting longitudinal studies, which will allow to take a closer look at the question of variability of emotional intelligence and social competences (including their particular components) and identify these characteristics of the school’s professional environment, that play a significant role – both positive and negative – in this process, which can be used in the course of further actions, aimed at creating optimal conditions for teachers to develop internal properties that are the subject of the study described in the article and which might be considered as the key determinants of their professional effectiveness. <br/><br/>
