The Design of Extended Complex Kalman Filter Based Speed-Sensorless Induction Motor Drive

Abstract

In this study, an extended complex Kalman filter (ECKF) based induction motor drive is performed which fulfills the estimations of the stator stationary axis components of stator currents, stator stationary axis components of rotor fluxes, rotor mechanical speed, and load torque including friction term. Instead of the conventional extended Kalman filter (CEKF), it is aimed to reduce the computational burden in the CEKF algorithm using the ECKF algorithm, which uses a complex motor model. In order to verify the performance of the proposed drive system, it is tested under ramp and step type load torque variations in a wide speed range including speed reversals and zero speed. Moreover, it is also shown that the computational load of the proposed ECKF algorithm is reduced compared to the CEKF algorithm, which estimates the same states and parameters.
