The effect of feeding linseed cake on milk yield and milk fatty acid profile in goats
Journal Title: Animal Science Papers and Reports - Year 2010, Vol 28, Issue 3
Abstract
The study aimed at determining the effect of supplementation the diet with linseed on milk yield and milk fatty acids profile in the middle stage of lactation of goats. Used were 16 Polish Fawn Improved goats divided into two groups: (1) fed the standard diet without supplementation (control) and (2) fed the diet supplemented with linseed cake (19.9% of diets’ total dry matter). Both diets were balanced according to INRA feeding standards and offered from week 12 to 17 of goats’ lactation. Milk samples were taken twice: two weeks after the beginning and then at the end of supplementing the diet with linseed cake. The linseed cake led to increase in milk yield and to favourable changes in fatty acids profile (the share of MUFA increased and of SFA decreased). Moreover, CLA content of milk significantly increased (ca. 10-fold) after linseed cake supplementation, whereas the concentration of undesirable SFA (especially C12 to C16) dropped significantly (almost 2-fold).

Genetic background of osteochondrosis in the horse – a review
Osteochondrosis is considered to be one of the most important problems in European sport horse breeding, as the frequency of OC(D) reaches 25% or more of investigated populations. The present article provides an overview...
Influence of combined supplementation of cows’ diet with linseed and fish oil on the thrombogenic and atherogenic indicators of milk fat
The study was conducted on Polish Holstein Black-and-White cows. From a herd of about 300 animals maintained in a free-stall dairy shed, two groups of 10 were selected by the analogue method: primiparous (P) and second-l...
Effects of GnRH agonist on reproductive functions of female rabbits
The physiological efficiency and mechanisms of action were studied of gonadotropin releasing hormone analogue (GnRH-A) on the reproductive functions of rabbits. Twenty-four female rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) were ran...
The effect of dietary oil seeds on the fatty acid profile and metabolism in ostrich liver
The study was carried out on 40 ostriches randomly allocated into five groups and each group was randomly assigned to a different dietary treatment. Experimental diets were made on the basis of a control diet, where a pa...
Association between polymorphism in STAT5A gene and milk production traits in Chinese Holstein cattle
STAT5 is a key intracellular mediator of prolactin signaling and can activate transcription of milk proteins in response to prolactin. STAT5 genes are suggested to be candidate markers for milk protein yield and composit...
