Journal Title: Complementary & Alternative Medicine in Science - Year 2013, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
Background. Music treatment is a helpful way for reduction of psychological tension, anxiety and improvement of mood state in humans who often experience worries, threats or anticipate stressful events. Few is known about eff ect of music on dynamic of post-exercise recovery. The purpose of this study was to verify hypothesis that listening to relaxing music during post eff ort recovery brings benefi ts as regards to some of psycho-physiological stress markers. Material and methods. A sample of 8 female boxers (aged 24.2 ± 1.6 s) has been enrolled to participation into a non judged sparing match (4 rounds* 2 min) played twice on separated days. The crossover experiment conducted in a randomized order consi- dering two various conditions of post-match passive recovery, one with relaxing music and one without it. The rate of normalization exercise stress was estimated based on the behavior of the levels of cortisol ( C), glucose (Glu) and lactate (LA) determined in blood sampled within +5 and + 35 minute of the recovery. RP E directly after run and state of fatigue after recovery were also determined. Results. C increased throughout recovery from +5 to +35 minutes without music and showed tendency to its decrease with music intervention. The magnitude of the decrease of Glu was signifi cant greater due to music. Normalization of LA occurring during recovery was not infl uenced by the music. Conclusions. Music modulated only C and Glu, the parameters which are a refl ection of the state of emotions and their intensities.
