THE EFFECT OF RED WINE IN CAPSULES EXTRACT ON PLASMA ACTIVITIES OF CELLULAR ENZYMES AND PLASMA LIPID PEROXIDATION IN SWIMMERS

Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2007, Vol 23, Issue 1

Abstract

Background. The aim of the paper was to assess the influence of red wine capsules on plasma creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity as well as plasma MDA level in students subjected to interval-type swimming test. Material and methods. The study material were 14 healthy 21 years old men randomised to two groups: 1-control group (n=6) with no supplementation, 2-supplementation group (n=8). Examined students performed interval-type swimming test (freestyle with moderate to high intensity) twice - before the onset of the study and after 6 weeks of red wine capsules administration. One capsule contained 390 mg of grape skin extract (including 188 mg of polyfenols: quercetin, trans-resveratrol, cis-resveratrol and 35 mg of anthocyanins: malvidin, pheonidin, petunidin, delphinidin). Plasma creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity as well as MDA levels were measured directly before warm-up, 3-5 min. after the swimming test and in the first hour of restitution.Results. Interval-type swimming test provoked statistically significant (p
