Abstract
Gender roles; are the subject of research in many fields as health service, economics, politics and education. In this study, with emphasis on the importance of gaining awareness of the gender roles and having a gender-sensitive perspective of counselors as a mental health employee, the "Gender Roles Sensitivity" group guidance program’s effect to egalitarian attitudes toward gender roles of counselor candidate has been studied. For this purpose, 30 counselors candidate participated in 3 groups as experimental, control and placebo groups. Gender Roles Attitude Scale was used as data collection tool in the study. At the end of the six-week Gender Role Sensitivity group guidance program, it was seen that counselors candidates’ post-test scores participating in the group guidance program increased significantly compared to those who did not participate in the program. The follow-up measurement showed that the increase in points in the experimental group fell in the follow-up measurements but is still higher than the pre-test results of the group. Lastly, suggestions were made for the counselors to gain sensitivity to gender roles in the light of the research findings.
