THE ELECTRIFICATION PROCESS OF THE POLISH COUNTRYSIDE – HISTORICAL AND TERRITORIAL APPROACH

Abstract
The article presents the process of electrification of Polish countryside in historical and territorial approach. To this end, the author drew attention to the interregional differentiations in equipping the countryside with electricity as a result of political changes taking place in the analyzed period of time. The rural housing connected to the wiring data come from 1960 and 1970 censuses and covered all rural areas in then 17 provinces. The results allowed to confirm that post-partition and post-war territorial differences in the progress of countryside electrification between a relatively well equipped western Poland and a significantly underdeveloped eastern and central part of the country were leveled out in the process of common electrification of the countryside, which reached the highest intensity in 1955-1975.The aging electricity network currently needs modernization, and in this context, more and more often the need for modern re-electrification of the countryside is discussed.<br/><br/>
