The evolution of the Sarmatian palaeoclimate in North-Eastern Romania: A palaeobotanical approach
Journal Title: Analele stiintifice ale Universitatii "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" din Iasi - seria Geologie - Year 2012, Vol 58, Issue 1
Abstract
In the present paper, 24 palaeobotanical assemblages were analysed and, by applying the Coexistence Approach method, the MAT (Mean Annual Temperature), MAP (Mean Annual Precipitations), CMT (Coldest Month Mean Temperature) and WMT (Warmest Month Mean Temperature) were calculated for the Sarmatian deposits from the north-east of Romania. The values calculated for the climatic parameters were used to obtain palaeoclimatic maps with their distribution in the studied area. During the Sarmatian period, the climate was warmtemperate, with mean annual temperatures between 12.1–18.8C, average precipitation of 958–1234 mm, and mean temperatures of the hot season between 23.1–26.9C. The present study also includes a comparison between the Sarmatian palaeoclimate and the modern climate from the same area.

Geochemical distribution of selected trace elements in the soil-plant system from Mănăila mining area, Romania
This study presents the geochemical distribution of several trace elements (TE) (Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Pb) in a soil-plant system, taking into account the lingonberry, a shrub most widely spread around the Mănăila mining regio...
The geochemical distribution of the heavy metals in the forestlands of the moor Şaru Dornei
Industrial activities such as burning coal and gasoline are the main factors which contribute to the more increasing emissions of heavy metals in the atmosphere. Once they have reached the atmosphere, these are easily di...
Oligocene fish fauna and sedimentological particularities of the Bituminous Marls of the Vrancea Nappe, Eastern Carpathians, Romania
The study was conducted in the Bistriţa Half-Window, Vrancea Nappe, in the Bituminous Marls, which is an intriguing entity, both ichthyological and sedimentological. Formally considered a monotonous lithostratigraphic un...
Removal of chromium ions through adsorption onto activated carbon: equilibrium study
The equilibrium studies for dichromate anion adsorption from aqueous solution on commercial activated carbon (CAC) were carried out under different conditions of the initial concentrations (0.02 to 0.4 mg mL-1), the adso...
Spatial modelling of quality parameters for the shallow groundwaters of the Moldavian Platform
The aim of the present study is to estimate the continuous spatial distribution for certain quality (contents of Na+, K+, Mg2+, SO4 2-, HCO3 - and TDS) related to the shallow groundwaters of the Moldavian Plateau. The an...
