The features of influence of emotional intelligence on selection of coping-behavior strategies

Abstract
The paper presents the results of the empirical study of the emotional intelligence and basic behavioral strategies of coping behavior among the students of socio-occupational professions (unemployed who undergo vocational retraining). It was found that the majority of students have an average level of development of emotional intelligence. However, on the scale of “Managing Own Emotions”, students have average (45%) and low (55%) indicators, which indicates a low level of self-control development, difficulties in managing their emotions and feelings. Active behavioral coping strategies “Problem Solving” and “Finding Social Support” occupy leading positions in the structure of student’s coping behavior. The strategy expressiveness level of “Avoidance” was at an average level. According to the correlation analysis, the sufficient and close correlation between the components of emotional intelligence and the basic strategies of coping behavior was established. The higher the rates of emotional intelligence, the more a person strives not to avoid problem situations, but to solve them, and, if necessary, to seek help.
