THE GODDESS OF LOVE IN THE PROSE BY DMITRY MEREZHKOVSKY

Abstract
The article discusses the image of Aphrodite (Venus) in the reception of Dmitry Merezhkovsky. The goddess “dies” and “is born” again, symbolizing the eternity of love, beauty and culture of Hellas. At the same time, the heroes of the trilogy “Christ and Antichrist” associate her with the “White Lady Devil”, which brings “evil love” and death.
