THE IDEA OF RESOCIALIZATION OF CONVICTED PERSONS IN THE SCIENTIFIC HERITAGE OF M. M. GERNET

Abstract
The article deals with the contribution of the famous pre-revolutionary and soviet lawyer M. Gernet (1874–1953) in the development of a theoretical framework and practical implementation of the idea of resocialization of convicts. The scientist suggested the implementation of resocialization by changing the principles of the prison, and the use of organizational forms that affect on the convict’s behavior. Among the important factors that facilitate resocialization, M. Gernet included the fight against alcoholism, proving using statistical presence of a large number of crimes committed by drunken persons.
