THE IMAM A SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS
Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2014, Vol 7, Issue 30
Abstract
Social reality reproduces itself for the audience and public through cinema. Films have the property of data for sociology because they reflect social reality on the big screen. In this article I analyzed the film The Imam through a sociological perspective, using it as a fictional indicator of a number of social realities in Turkey. Through analysis of The Imam, this text questions causes of cultural conflict and discusses forms of religiosity in Turkey. This article mentions the impact of globalization and secularization on society and religiosity. In addition, the study considered names given to the people as one of indicators of socio-cultural belonging. The main reason for criticisms via the "life-style interventions" rhetoric of a number of political developments in Turkey is seen to stem from a loss of cultural hegemony.
