THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE FUNCTIONAL AND COMMUNICATIVE APPROACH IN THE PROCESS OF INTRODUCING COOPERATIVE LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES OF TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGES

Abstract

The main approaches to teaching foreign languages in modern domestic and foreign methodology have been analyzed. The implementation of the functional principle in the process of introducing cooperative learning technologies of teaching foreign languages has been investigated. The realization of a functional and communicative approach in teaching foreign languages consists in mastering, awareness of the expediency and practical usage by foreign language learners a complex of various language tools in their interaction and contextual appropriateness in the process of creating different types of foreign language discourse. A set of functions performed by the teacher in the process of managing the educational and cognitive activity of foreign language learners has been determined, namely, diagnostic, orientation and prognostic, constructive and projective, organizational, monitoring and evaluation functions. There have been highlighted the peculiarities of pedagogical functions in the process of implementing the cooperative learning technologies in teaching a foreign language with the purpose of forming language learners’ communicative competence in the target language.
