THE IMPORTANCE AND DIFFICULTIES OF IDIOMS AND FIXED EXPRESSIONS IN THE TRANSLATION PROCESS

Abstract

Translation as a means of interlingual communication is a science, an art in the sense that it necessitates complete knowledge of the structure and make-up of the two languages concerned. As a work of art, it requires artistic talent to reconstruct the original text in the form of a product, and as a skill it enables to smooth over any difficulty in the translation. The task of this article is to shed light and emphasize the challenges in translation of idiomatic expressions as well as strategy of idioms, fixed expressions in the translation process. We live in an increasingly internationalized world where ever-growing numbers of individuals are in continuous contact with foreign cultures and languages both in their professional lives as well as in more informal contexts, usually via mass media. The more internationalized the world becomes, the greater the importance of translation also grows. This researching paper outlines idioms as an predominant communication tool, and relying on the purpose of exposing idioms which are in use, it develops and proffers strategies in order to examine, estimate and translate it by providing in a concise way information sustaining how people conceptualize the world around them. In the cutting edge universe, there are plenty of languages all around the world each of which differs from the others in some aspects. Following this further, it is explicit that the people of different countries own diverse ideologies and every society assimilate the world in from different angles and thereupon, the ideologies influence the languages and the ways of expressing meanings. Idioms and fixed expressions have got a vast territory in a way that they can include many cultural aspects such as religious beliefs, culture-specific items, superstitions, and different ideologies of the people from diverse societies and nations. Thus, in a consequence, idioms and fixed expressions share discrepancy between each other from multifarious aspects.
