The incidence and associated factors to mortality in Critical Care patients of Imam Reza hospital in kermanshah, Iran in 2014

Abstract

The causes of mortality and its rate are a research priority of the intensive care units in the hospitals. With regard to the lake of information in Iran and Kermanshah province, the current study was aimed to determine the mortality rate and related factors in patients admitted to the critical cares of Imam Reza hospital in Kermanshah province, Iran in 2014.The study was done as a descriptive-cross-sectional. Data was gathered through review of the hospital records of dead patients. Mortality rate, the number of hospitalized cases, the sex, the number and cause of death were assessed. Data was entered to SPSS 16 software and analyzed by descriptive statistices. Of the 1614 patients admitted to the ICU in 2012, 251 patients have dead (15.5 %), 55.8 % of them were female and 44.2% male. The highest death rate was occurred in the age group of 71-90 years. The most common causes of death was neurosurgeric injuries (29/1%). The deaths mostly occurred during the hours between 6 AM to 12 (MD) (34.3 %). The highest mortality rate happened among patients with a Glasgow score (level of consciousness) of five (42.5 %).The Mortality rate in this study was acceptable. The most common causes of death was nerve injury and surgery, low level of consciousness, and ageing. Considering that the highest mortality due to the nerve injuries and accidents, it is suggested for establishing the traffic standards.
