THE INFLUENCE OF BIOLOGICAL RESTITUTION ON THE SPORT RESULTS AMONG HANDICAPPED POWERLIFTERS WITH CEREBRAL PALSY

Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2010, Vol 26, Issue 4

Abstract

Background. The goal of the study was to determine the influence of complex biological restitution on the sport results of powerlifters with cerebral palsy. Material and methods. The sample comprised power-lifters with cerebral palsy aged 18-30 y, with correctly functioning upper limbs. All of the participants belonged to the ”Start-Impel” sport club located in Wroclaw. The research was conducted in two identical cycles for the same group of handicapped athletes. The primary research was conducted during the first cycle, and after 5 months the secondary research was accomplished during the second cycle. During every cycle before and after the training mesocycle, and then after the training mesocycle combined with biological restitution, a strength test was applied. Results. The results show that during the mezocycle combined with complex biological restitution a systematic training led to a significant increase in sport results in the entire studied sample. Conclusions. Complex biological restitution is a significant factor that facilitates sport training of handicapped powerlifters with cerebral palsy. This statement is supported by the statistics that demonstrated a significant increase in individual sport results due to complex biological restitution at the end of each of the two training mesocycles. Complex biological restitution as a part of training and competitions is regarded the basic element of athletic training. Handicapped athletes require a regular biological restitution because of several reasons including the type of cerebral palsy (CP class), amount of training overload and training volume.
