The influence of the fungicide containing flusilazole on yield and seed quality of winter oilseed rape
Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2011, Vol 32, Issue 2
Abstract
Beside the use of good agrotechnical practices and sowing seeds of cultivars with raised levels of resistance to stem canker of brassicas, fungicide treatments are the only alternatives to combat fungal diseases of oilseed rape. Due to special agrotechnical requirements, winter oilseed rape crop is usually grown in medium size and big farms, on areas from 10 to 100 and more hectares. Crops grown as monocultures on such large areas require particularly careful maintenance and protection against diseases and pests. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of fungicide treatments against stem canker of oilseed rape on yield and chemical composition of seeds. The evaluation concerned the influence of application time of fungicide containing flusilazole on the content of indole and alkenyl glucosinolates, as well as the neutral and acid detergent fiber. The study also included the effect on oil and protein content in seeds, thousand seed weight and yield. The field experiment was carried out on experimental plots with an area of 15 m2 with winter oilseed rape hybrid variety PR46W10, at the Experimental Station of Cultivar Testing in Krościna Mała, located in Lower Silesia. The study was conducted for two consecutive growing seasons from 2009/2010 to 2010/2011, differing in parameters of weather and spore release profile of ascomycetous fungi Leptosphaeria maculans and L. biglobosa, causing stem canker of brassicas. It was demonstrated that the date of fungicide application had a significant impact on quantity and quality of winter oilseed rape. Fungicide treatments caused the increase of glukobrassicine content and the decrease of the total alkenyl glucosinolate content in the seeds of winter oilseed rape. Spraying plants with flusilazole had no effect on the percentage of oil, but it was associated with an increase of the amount of proteins in seeds. A high correlation has been found between the content of neutral and acid detergent fibers, as well as the amount of glucosinolates and the content of progoitrine and gluconapine. The yield of oilseed rape was higher after all applications of the fungicide, regardless of spraying time.
