The integral index of social self-feeling: an alternative approach
Journal Title: Соціологія: теорія, методи, маркетинг - Year 2017, Vol 20, Issue 4
Abstract
The paper deals with the alternative use of the Integral Index of Social Self-Feeling developed by Ukrainian sociologists Ye. Golovakha and N. Panina. The alternative approach was realized in two aspects. Firstly, the index value calculation different from the author’s one is used. Secondly, a shortened variant of the method (IISS-13) has been constructed. Development of the latter is based on two principles: 1) preservation of the structure of full index version; 2) allowance for relevance of selected indicators. The measuring properties of full and shortened versions of the method (IISS-44, IISS-20 and IISS-13) have been compared. Criteria of respondents categorization in the framework of the use of different versions of IISS with the help of ideal-typical and classification approaches have been proposed. It was concluded that IISS-20 is preferred in situations, when a researcher has to focus on that component of social self-feeling, which is connected with everyday level of vital activity of the individual, while IISS-13 — in situation of interest to a wider social context.
