Today’s sociology: tendencies and prospects of development

Abstract
The paper deals with an attempt to determine stages in development of sociology in the unity of its theoretical principles and technologies of sociologic research. The chosen criteria are as follows: (1) qualitative changes in the character of sociology in correspondence with socio-cultural realias of historical period; (2) growth of variativity of scientific knowledge as a whole and that of sociological knowledge in particular. The author has distinguished 4 stages in development of sociology as independent academic science. Stage 1 – pre-globalization, stage 2 – the stage of the epoch of development of globalization processes; stage 3 – the stage of globalizations multiplicity; stage 4 –– that of post-globalization development which began in 2016 and continues now. The author proposes 7 characteristics of each stage, giving the idea of research priorities and salience of scientific interests of sociologists: the character of sociology; the determining features; main ideas; central subjects; main functions; dominating sign; basic methods of empirical investigations. This allows distinguishing a number of tendencies in development of the modern sociologic theorization and formation of the newest research technologies.
