The Investigation of in–filled light–weight concrete cracking in frames made of cold–formed steel

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2012, Vol 3, Issue 12

Abstract

In the current situation structures are traditionally built using hot–rolled steel. Making use of cold–formed steel sections indicates that exploiting members with large, thin and light–weight sheet dimensions instead of structural sections containing fewer dimensions, high and heavy thickness, are in line with economizing steel–made materials. The present paper tends to deal with new method of lightening in cold–formed structures group in which inside of empty frames in cold– formed, steel–made buildings have been filled with foamed concrete and in which members connections are designed jointly making use of bolts and nuts. The results of the study have been calculated using modeling in ABAQUS software, in the form of place force–deformation figure. The walls in filled concrete cracklings have been understudied with various types of foamed light–weight concrete and normal–weight concrete. Comparing in filled and empty walls, one can conclude that applying concrete results increase in area under the curve force–displecement, strain increase, energy attraction increase, increase in ductility, and increase in structure strength. Cracking diagrams in analytical models indicate that the upmost cracklings are around connection to support, stud to concrete, and under the frame. Maximum amount of strain is in these areas and nonlinear behavior of structure is bending. In analytical model in which there is no concrete in the frame, maximum failure and stress is observed in column base.
