The Main Peculiarities of the English-Language Children’s Poetic Discourse

Abstract

The article deals with the revealing of the specific features of the English-language children’s poetic discourse. Children’s poetic discourse is a unity that is actualized because of social, historical, national and cultural processes in the form of the poetic texts. The main peculiarities of these poetic texts are objectivity and concreteness, dynamism and effectiveness, emotionality and optimism, entertainment and didacticism. All of the above provides the recipient-child’s perception of the poetic texts in accordance with the psychophysiological features, a system of background knowledges and values. The types of communicative tonality that are inherent in the English-language children’s poetic discourse are defined in the paper: informative, phatic, playful and fascinating. An informative tonality is represented in such a way that the author’s aim is to tell some information with the help of rhymed text, to cause the necessary, expected reaction from the addressee. Phatic function appears as a conditional value, since the communication of the poet with the young readers is imaginary, actualized through the poetic text. Attention focuses on the representation of the strategies and tactics in the English-language children’s poetic discourse in accordance with the functions of the language. The tonalities of the English-language children’s poetic discourse are determined by the strategic potential of the author’s poetic speech. They are important in designation of the status relationships between the addresser-poet and the addressee-child. They determine the characteristic features of the English-language children’s poetic discourse. Among which there are emotiveness, informative, attractiveness, optimism, orientation both on the content, and on the form, involvement in the contact.
