Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2023, Vol 12, Issue 3

Abstract

This study determined the moderating effect of self-esteem on the relationship between perceived social support and psychological well-being among 336 senior high school adolescents in General Santos City, Philippines. A non-experimental quantitative research design using the descriptive correlational technique was applied. In analyzing the data, weighted mean, Pearson r, linear regression, and hierarchical regression analysis were used. Results revealed that the level of adolescents' self-esteem was high. The adolescent's level of perceived social support was moderate and the level of psychological well-being was also high. Further, it was revealed that there was a significant relationship between perceived social support and psychological well-being. However, there was no significant relationship between perceived social support and self-esteem. In this study, the researcher used moderated hierarchical regression analysis which indicates that Self-esteem can moderate the relationship between Perceived Social Support and Psychological Well-being indirectly. Thus, showing partial moderation. Since there is a partial moderation, this signifies that there is not only a significant relationship between Self-esteem and Psychological Well-being but also some direct relationship between Perceived Social Support and Psychological Well-being.
