THE NEEDS OF ELDERLY ALONE WOMEN IN THE CASE OF ANKARA

Abstract
This research conducted with elderly alone women (65 ages +) to present their needs in the framework of gender. In this study 207 women aged over 65 were conducted that were living in Altındağ, Mamak and Çankaya districts. According to findings % 88,4 of women were married but their husbands passed away and. % 64,3 of women live alone more than ten years. Women stated that major causes of not to remarry are motherhood position and care giving roles. They live in under absolute poverty line, couldn’t access basic rights (adequate food, housing, health, adequate income), feel loneliness and insafety. They prefer to live in their houses. It was seen that women continue their daily life activities independently. Neighbours and children of women are other resources of support. Women sustain their lives more easier than men because of traditional gender roles. According to these findings rights based social policy proposals which facilitate women’s daily life are discussed.
