THE ODESSA PERIOD OF ACTIVITY OF THE EDUCATIONAL DISTRICT TRUSTEE S. P. GOLUBTSOV

Abstract
The purpose of this article is the analysis of activities of the doctor of medicine Sergey Platonovich Golubtsov when he held the position of a trustee of the Odessa educational district in 1866–1880. This work is based on materials of the array of published sources that are stored in the Scientific Library of the Odessa National University, and archival documents of the Odessa Region State Archive and the Russian State Historical Archive. Biography studies methods and a comprehensive analysis of information recorded in historical sources let us to research the milestones of life and activity of the Odessa educational district trustee Sergey Golubtsov including his role in the establishment of the Novorossiysk University and his efforts for propagation of primary and secondary schools in the district he headed. The study managed to reveal the main directions of practical work, which S.P. Golubtsov concentrated his efforts on during that period. The author examines strengths and weaknesses of the trustee activities and his contribution to the development of education in the region.
