The Position of Salary Promotions Provided to Civil Servants, Laborers and Pensioners by Banks in Terms of Islamic Jurisprudence

Journal Title: Marife Dini Araştırmalar Dergisi - Year 2018, Vol 18, Issue 2

Abstract

The religion of Islam prohibited interest for people and deemed it haram. It also prohibited acts and contracts that are carried out with interest. Banks are some of the significant intermediary institutions of the contemporary financial system. Conventional banks are restricted in their activities by existing law, but they cannot assess jobs and operations in a religious sense. Today’s civil servants, laborers and pensioners receive their salaries from banks. In line with the legal regulations in recent years, banks provide civil servants, laborers and pensioners with promotional offers in the case that their salaries are deposited in their branches. As the promotions provided to these people from banks are a current and debated issue, today’s scholars of Islamic jurisprudence have discussed the topic and provided a set of views. However, as it is a contemporary issue, to the best of our knowledge, no detailed study has been conducted on it yet. In this article, we will discuss the position of these promotions provided by banks in terms of Islamic jurisprudence and the views of scholars of Islamic jurisprudence on this issue.
