The principle of causality in etymology

Abstract

The article deals with the linguistic-historiographical research of the principle of causality functioning in etymology. The principal ideas about language changes, their importance for etymological studies are under consideration. It is asserted that language changes are caused by linguistic factors as well as extralinguistic ones.
