THE PRIVATE, HEREDITARY CAPTAINCY NEW LUSITANIA AS THE OUTPOST OF PORTUGUESE COLONIZATION OF NORTHEASTEN BRAZIL

Abstract

In the article we examined the characteristic particularities of portuguese crown politics relatively the colonization of Brazil during the first half of XVI century. We discovered the particularities of initial phase of colonization of northeastern Brazil by the portugueses and the creation of private, hereditary captaincy New Lusitania in the thirtieths years of XVI century. We found out that captaincy acquired meaning of the northeastern outpost of portuguese colonial expansion on the territory of Brazil since the beginning of 1532. The mission of the portuguese captain-donatario Duarte Coelho Pereira as owner his feudal seigniory (captaincy New Lusitania or Pernambuco) is discovered. The particularities of economical development of New Lusitania are lighted.
