THE PROBLEM OF IDENTITY OF THE HERO IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CONTEMPORARY POLISH PROSE

Abstract
The paper describes the problems associated with the formation and the search for the identity of contemporary Polish literature after the overthrow of the communist regime and the disappearance of censorship. The study examines the work of the new generation of writers, who debuted during the period of change and the construction of a new society. The paper analyses the main trends in the development of the modern Polish hero and the ways of establishing identity on the path to self-affirmation. To demonstrate a broader picture, the study cites famous Polish critics of modern literature, their vision, issues they problematize and the way they deal with those issues; it analyses main trends in modern Polish prose by providing leading representatives of the literary circles of the last decade
