Journal Title: Актуальні питання гуманітарних наук: Міжвузівський збірник наукових праць молодих вчених Дрогобицького державного педагогічного університету - Year 2018, Vol 19, Issue 1
Abstract
The author in the article determines the genre nature of humorous-fantasy novel from the standpoint of hermeneutics of the individual; interpreting the central female characters of the novels by O. Gromyko “The Witch” and “The Faithful Ene- mies”, emphasizes the otherness of these characters. The identity represents as a system of identities (a woman and the other (a witch or a werewolf), a friend and an enemy etc.), where the otherness transforms first of all the identity of a woman. The role of a woman in stereotypical representations in a patriarchal society is represented as a starting position for the image of a woman the other. The female character by O. Gromyko is much more stronger physically, than a usual person (female or male), she can perform traditionally male role in some cases, using her femininity as an instrument and, meantime, be a traditional, stereotypical woman, who can be defended by a stronger man – a magician, a vampire, a sainted. At the same time, the author points out, that the physical and physiological level of characters’ functioning and inter- action is actualized the similarity regardless of their nature. It means that the novels by O. Gromyko represent the natural wish of a human to be stronger physically. The concept of identity is analyzed as a central aspect of hermeneutics of the women’s images of the novels. The author defines the nature of the novel genre by O. Gromyko in connection with the love novel, because of the development of the narrative. The narrative of fantasy novels (for example, about Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling or “Twilight Saga” by S. Meyer) leads the heroes to formation, understanding and acceptance of their identity. In Gromyko’s novels we have the other point for the representing the identity: it is quite ready at the beginning of the narrative. So, the narrative performs a different role: it shows already formed characters of women, who are passing different tests for finding their real love. That is the reason the author determines Gromyko’s novels as a mass-cultural text: it is comfort for reading (and humor is one of the reasons for it), based on a human wish to be loved and strong to provide security to ourselves and to people whom we love.
