Journal Title: Δόξα / Докса. Збірник наукових праць з філософії та філології - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue
Abstract
The article makes an attempt to analyze the possibility of returning to practice the liturgical singing tradition, in particular, to the ancient chants. Secularization covered the whole church culture, touched the liturgical practice. Church Orthodox singing proved to be most vulnerable to the process of secularization. A great influence on church singing was made by the “author’s style”, instead of the single-syllabic song the works of the composer were included. The attempt to return to the liturgical practice the ancient chants collides with the unpreparedness of the modern believers to perceive them, as the aesthetic taste of many generations was formed by Western European secular music. The ways of spiritual revival through reconsideration of traditional Orthodox culture are considered. After doing this the importance of church life again rises. Festivals of church singing are organized. The possibility of returning to traditional hymns in compositional processing and harmonization is also analyzed in this text.
